beacting = a harmonious merging of being and acting in a performance

Anton Korenev suggests that a new term needs to be introduced to help a performer to understand and, therefore, to increase the chances of achieving the magical state of "living" on stage. The desired state is not really the state of "being": the characters and performers are, by definition, different human beings. At the same time, the desired state is not "acting" either: it goes far beyond the "craft" of acting. The new term—beacting—would help a performer to consciously separate these two realities and, at the same time, to acknowledge their harmonious merging in a performance.

Upcoming Classes and Workshops

Classes and workshops are currently being organized in Tennessee. Both classes and workshops are focused on scene work, with the assumption that theory could be learned more efficiently by resolving specific questions that come up while working on a specific scene. The style of acting that is taught/encouraged is what could be called realistic or personal or psychological acting, heavily influenced by The Method (Lee Strasberg), The System (Konstantin Stanislavskii), and, most importantly, by the teachings of (and in-person study with) John Strasberg.

Training Approach

Anton Korenev's training approach/framework is based on four key skills he has identified (4Ps approach):

  1. Perception: the ability to accurately perceive a truly great work in front of you. This implies the ability to accurately perceive a not-so-great work as such as well.
  2. Preparation: the individual process each actor/actress develops/discovers that prepares him/her for work.
  3. Practice: the endless feedback-driven cycle of practicing, identifying errors and/or areas of improvement, and then practicing again.
  4. Patience: the state of mind that allows worry-free work on Perception, Preparation, and Practice.

About Anton Korenev

He took his first acting class in 2001 in New York City and has been around theater since. But the pivotal point was when he attended a workshop given by John Strasberg in 2015. That workshop has led to many years of on-going eye-opening study of acting, theater, and directing with the master teacher. As time went by, Anton Korenev naturally progressed from acting to directing and producing, and now, with John Strasberg's encouragement, to teaching. He is also a member of an IATSE Local. His current goal is to direct and produce performances that touch and affect audiences. Information about some of his recent projects is available at antonkoreneventertainment.com.
