beacting = a harmonious merging of being and acting in a performance

The magical state of "living" on stage is not exactly the state of "being": the characters and performers are, by definition, different human beings. At the same time, the desired state is not "acting" either: it goes far beyond the craft of acting. The new term—beacting—would allow the performer to increase the chances of being alive on stage by consciously separating these two realities and, at the same time, by acknowledging their harmonious merging in a performance.

Training Approach

The style of acting that is taught/encouraged is what could be called realistic or personal or psychological acting, heavily influenced by The Method (Lee Strasberg), The System (Konstantin Stanislavskii), and, most importantly, by my study with John Strasberg. This personal and intimate style of acting is particularly suitable for film and TV. Ironically, involving oneself on a personal level is so much more difficult than one would expect. At the same time, there is shortage of acting coaches and teachers who participated in, or were connected to, the Golden Age of American Theater. These two circumstances explain the prevalence of either naturalistic acting in film and TV or representational acting in theater. To learn personal, realistic acting, Anton Korenev has trained with master teacher John Strasberg for the last ten years. John Strasberg defined The Organic Creative Process, The Organic Script Analysis, and The Nine Natural Laws of Creativity.

Anton Korenev's training approach/framework is based on his synthesis of The Method, The System, and John Strasberg's teachings, and consists of four key elements he has identified (4Ps approach):

  1. Perception: the conscious ability to accurately perceive and evaluate a performance, both your own and of others. This includes developing your skill to perceive a text and the ability to identify your personal impulses/reactions to it.
  2. Preparation: the individual process each actor/actress develops/discovers/invents that would open the door for one's best work. This involves both long-term and short-term preparation, from working on creating an imaginary world to the ability to express that inner world to the audience.
  3. Practice: the feedback-driven cycle of practicing, identifying errors and/or areas of improvement, and then practicing again.
  4. Patience: the state of mind that allows uninhibited work on Perception, Preparation, and Practice for as long as needed.

About Anton Korenev

He took his first acting class in 2001 in New York City and has been around theater since. But the pivotal point was when he attended a workshop given by John Strasberg in 2015. That workshop has led to many years of on-going eye-opening study of acting, theater, and directing with the master teacher. As time went by, Anton Korenev naturally progressed from acting to directing and producing, and now, with John Strasberg's encouragement, to teaching. He is also a member of an IATSE Local. His current goal is to direct and produce performances that touch and affect audiences. Information about some of his recent projects is available at antonkoreneventertainment.com.
